Vertigo

Vertigo is a feeling of dizziness. A person suffering from vertigo feels that his environment is moving or spinning even though there is no actual movement. The rotational dizziness is caused by an imbalance of functions within the inner ear, in some parts of the brain, and/or in sensory nerve pathways. The inner ear problem is called Vestibular neuritis or Labyrinthitis— a condition that originates from an infection. This infection causes inflammation in the inner ear (around the nerves), which is responsible for keeping the body’s sense of balance

SYMPTOMS OF VERTIGO

Some of the most common symptoms of vertigo include nausea, vomiting, hearing loss or ringing of the ear, tinnitus, or a feeling of fullness in the ear. Other symptoms that may accompany vertigo include abnormal or jerking eye movements (nystagmus), headache, and sweating. The symptoms can last from a few minutes to a few hours or more. It may also come and go depending on the patient’s condition.

TREATMENT OF VERTIGO

Treatment for vertigo depends on what causes the condition. However, there are some cases in which vertigo goes away without treatment. In these cases, the patient’s brain relies on other mechanisms to maintain balance and adapt to the changes in the inner ear.

There are many instances when Chiropractic Treatment is needed to cure vertigo. The answer will depend on the doctor’s diagnosis.
